Police need help from the public to find a rapist who posed as a taxi cab driver.
The man picked up a woman walking in the area of Mill and High Streets early New Year's Morning. Police say the woma had just left a party and was looking for a ride, when the driver of a dark colored four-door sedan told her he was a taxi driver and convinced her to get in.
The victim told police that instead of taking her where she asked, the fake taxi driver threatened her, and drove to Cornerstone Baptist Church near the Clark County line.
That's where the man reportedly raped her.
She was able to run for help when the rapist left the scene.
Donald Butcher answered his door when the woman was loudly knocking. He says the woman only had a coat on, but no shoes and was holding her clothes. Butcher says the woman told him the man slapped her and became violent when she said he passed her street.
The 30-year old victim said she thought the man was going to kill her when they arrived at Cornerstone Baptist church. Butcher says the woman says she gave in to him to save her life. After raping her, the man kept the woman's cell phone, but threw her and her belongings onto the road.
The suspect's described as a white man in his 30s. around 5'10'' and weighing 200 pounds.
He has short dark hair and a short beard and is described as having a chubby face and belly.
Police are investigating if the crime is related to other similar sexual assault crimes that have happened in the area. In 2008 a woman was abducted from Elizabeth Street and taken to a remote area in Jessamine County. In 2009, a woman was picked up from Crescent Avenue and taken to the Southland Christian Church parking lot in Jessamine County where she was sexually assaulted.
Police say the man fitting the descriptions in these two cases is similar to the man fitting the description from the New Year's incident.
