LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Some big changes could soon be coming to one of Lexington's busiest roads.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is considering an $80 million project to widen New Circle Road. The plan includes changing New Circle from four to six lanes between the Georgetown Road and Versailles Road exits.

"We feel it will greatly reduce congestion in this area by adding a lane in each direction," said Rob Sprague, the projects design supervisor.

Sprague tells WKYT the Transportation Cabinet will reveal the plans at a public meeting on November 29th.

While the expansion is priority, according to Sprague, he says they are also looking at building another double-crossover-diamond at the New Circle Road & Leestown Road intersection.

If approved, construction on the widening project could begin in the fall of 2013. We're told it could be several months later before construction begins on a new double-crossover-diamond.
