Two Men Shot Dead, One Glasgow Police Officer Injured In Barren County Shoot-Out

A standoff in south-central Kentucky ended Wednesday night when a gunman who killed a man and wounded a Glasgow police officer, apparently took his own life, according to Kentucky State Police.

Officers were called to a residence near downtown Glasgow about 12:30 m. CDT on a report of shots fired. An officer found a man fatally wounded outside the house and was then fired on, Trooper Todd Holder said.

Glasgow Officer J.D. Walden was shot in the back, Holder said, but the wound proved non life-threatening, according to Bart Logsdon, acting spokesman for T.J. Samson Hospital. Walden was released from the hospital.

Just over six hours later, after sending in two camera-equipped robots and determining the first floor was clear, police entered the house and found the suspect in an upstairs room, dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, Glasgow Police Lieutenant Maxie Murray said.

The identities of the man found dead outside the house and the gunman were not released, but a press conference was scheduled by Glasgow Police for 3 p.m. CDT Thursday.

Glasgow, in Barren County, is about 100 miles south of Louisville.

It was the second time in a week a city police officer had been shot in Kentucky.

Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy was fatally shot on June 13 in his squad car while making a DUI arrest. Lacy was the only officer in the eastern Kentucky police department.
