House Bill 176, passed unanimously by the House Monday, targets improvements and reforms to low performing schools…and more accountability for teachers.
Kentucky has until next Tuesday to apply for the Obama administration’s Race to the Top grant. More than $4 billion will be handed to states that show they’re advancing key reforms. If it becomes law, House Bill 176 could result in low performing schools being closed, and sets up achievement goals for schools typically in the bottom five percent.
It’s hoped the bill will get to the Governor’s desk by Friday to make the deadline. And the bill includes an emergency clause to make the legislation law as soon as it is signed.
