Southern Kentucky Man Denied Parole

Video will be available shortly

Today a Southern Kentucky man, who admitted responsibility in the death of a beauty queen, was denied parole.

Ryan West must serve the the full ten year sentence for manslaughter. He was convicted of driving drunk when he crashed, killing Brittany Shoap in 2005.

Shoap's family went before the parole board last week. But today West took the stand and testified on his own behalf.

The whole hearing before the board lasted only about 15 minutes. But it only took a few minutes for the board to decide that Ryan West should stay in prison.

Viewed on closed circuit T.V. from the prison facility in Bell County, West was asked why it was necessary for him to drive 90 miles an hour while drunk causing an accident that killed Brittany Shoap. West admitted to drinking 3 to 4 beers and several shots of alcohol before the crash, saying that he was sorry and that it was a bad decision. The parole board didn't buy his apologies, and decided to keep him in prison.

West will remain in prison in Bell County until at least 2012.

Brittany Shoap's mother says West has never contacted her, nor apologized to her since the accident.
