Several Cargo Cars Derail at Louisville Industrial Park

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Several train cars derailed at an industrial park in eastern Louisville on Friday, but there were no reports of injuries.

Authorities were evacuating homes near Bluegrass Industrial Park, but it was unclear whether any hazardous material had leaked from the train.

The Norfolk Southern train went off the track at around 2:40 p.m. EST, said Robin Chapman, a spokesman for the company. He said 11 rail cars went off the track, but he did not have information on what the cars were carrying.

"There were no injuries," Chapman said.

Chris Thomas, a dispatcher with the Jeffersontown Police Department, said authorities were evacuating homes within a 1½-mile radius of the site. She had no other information on the derailment.

Chapman said the mixed freight train was traveling from Buckeye, Ohio, to St. Louis.
