FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - State Transportation officials say the south-bound bore of the Cumberland Gap Tunnel is going to be closed Sunday night for several weeks.
A pavement repair project is expected to last until mid-August. In addition, the speed limit for all traffic in the north-bound tunnel will be lowered to 25 miles per hour.
No wide loads will be allowed to pass through the tunnel during the construction period. Officiala say a wide load is anything over ten feet wide.
In addition, there will be no hazardous material escorts because officials say the risk of an accident increases dramatically by having a vehicle stop in single-lane traffic.
