FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The number of meals served to low-income Kentuckians by federal food programs has grown in recent years, reflecting a similar increase nationwide.
The Commodity National School Lunch Program distributed commodities to be used to serve more than almost 88 (m) million meals to Kentucky school children last year - up nearly one-point-two (m) million from 2005. The dollar value of the meals declined slightly to 15-point-three (m) million dollars last year.
The Commodity Supplemental Food Program served just over 15-thousand clients a total of four-point-one (m) million dollars worth of food in 2005. The number of clients is established by the U-S-D-A.
