Hoops for Haiti is great success

The Hoops for Haiti telethon you saw for much of the day on WKYT was a great success. To put it in perspective, it was the third most searched item on Google.

For four hours Coach Cal was in WKYT's studio helping raise money for the relief efforts in Haiti. The UK basketball team took calls and many of Cal's good friends in basketball and entertainment called in to pledge their support.

From just the telethon, Coach Cal and UK Athletics say $525 thousand dollars was raised and with the matching funds, that number will near one million.

There's also quite a few impressive items up for bid on eBay including dinner for six at Coach Cal's house with Ashley Judd. Also up for bid is a 'two on two' with former UK players Tony Delk and Scott Padgett and an appearance on Coach Cal's TV show.

The items will be up for sale until Tuesday night.

So far, bids total around 30 thousand dollars.

All proceeds benefit the Hoops for Haiti relief fund.

Cat Fan-Attic is selling special Hoops for Haiti T-shirts at their store on Harrodsburg road and at catfanattic.com.

The shirts cost $10 and all proceeds go to the Hoops for Haiti fund.

Elk Creek Vineyards is also helping out by donating money from the sale of it's 'Kentucky Blue' wine.

One dollar for every bottle sold between now and senior day will go to the Hoops for Haiti fund.
