Campaign: Fletcher Would Work Against Gambling Amendment

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Governor Fletcher's campaign manager says the governor has taken a stronger stand against casino gambling. Fletcher's challenger in the fall general election Democrat Steve Beshear supports efforts to legalize casino gambling in Kentucky.

Ryall said Fletcher has personally opposed the issue, and the fall election should be a referendum on the matter. Ryall says voters who support legalized gambling should support Beshear, while those who oppose the idea should cast their votes for Fletcher.

In the past, Fletcher has said he personally opposed legalized casino gambling, but would not work against it.

Beshear spokesman Robert Kellar says the governor has been -- quote -- "wildly inconsistent" -- unquote -- on the issue.
