Man surrenders after standoff

Police have a man in custody after a two and a half hour standoff in Lexington.

Police blocked off an area around a home on Augusta Drive Wednesday night.

Investigators say Jimmy Davenport had assaulted a friend at an nearby home.

When officers arrived at his house to investigate, he appeared to reach for a weapon.

The victim says Davenport had been drinking and suddenly turned violent.

He says Davenport help him hostage for a little before letting him go.

The standoff ended about 8:30 Wednesday night when the suspect surrendered to police.

Investigators say they're charging Davenport with assault and wanton endangerment.
