Court To Decide If Accused Danville Murder Suspect Will Be Evaluated

DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky Court of Appeals panel is to consider a Boyle County case next month and decide if murder suspect Jack Caldwell Senior can be forced to undergo a mental evaluation.

Chief Judge Sara Walter Combs said a three-judge panel will take up the matter on July 24th. The 82-year-old Caldwell is accused of shooting neighbor Jim Trachsel to death nearly three years ago as Trachsel was mowing grass along the property line the two men shared in Danville.

The often-delayed case was sent to the appellate court in April after defense attorneys challenged an order by Boyle Circuit Judge Darren Peckler. He ordered that Caldwell receive a mental evaluation at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center.
