More Black Bear Sightings Across The State

LIBERTY, Ky. (AP) - Black bears are moving west out of eastern
Kentucky.

At least four of the bears have been spotted this week in Casey
County, about 65 miles south of Lexington.

A forester recently spotted a bear coming out of a storage shed
where she keeps dog food. She estimated the bear's weight at between 150 and 200 pounds.

Three other bears were seen by residents earlier in the week. The different sightings occurred about six miles apart.

Landowners in Casey, Adair and Russell counties have told forestry officials they have seen bear tracks.

Black bears once ranged throughout the forests that covered three-quarters of Kentucky. But habitat destruction and human harassment nearly eliminated them from the state a century ago.

It's illegal to shoot or feed black bears.
