Mayor looks at challenges and benefits in 2010

Mayor Jim Newberry says a lot of ground work for future projects were laid in 2009 and now in 2010 he says it's time to put those plans into action.

The most visible preparation, in the eyes of Mayor Newberry is Lexington getting ready for 2010 World Equestrian Games.

The Mayor says his most immediate challenge will be to balance the upcoming budget, a budget with a revenue shortfall of 12.5 million dollars.

Newberry says the easiest fix to that problem is to replace the missing revenue by not spending as much in 2010.

A task that may be difficult considering some of the projects, trails, and downtown investment the mayor would also like to see in the upcoming year.

Mayor Newberry says his number one priority however will be the taxpayer and spending taxpayer money wisely.
