Kentucky Lawmaker Will Deploy To Afghanistan At End Of July

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - It's a good bet Lt. Col. Tim Moore will be multi-tasking from a remote location somewhere in Afghanistan this summer.

The Kentucky Air National Guard pilot is headed to the war-torn country later this month.

But his first mission of 2007 was navigating the white-and-black marbled hallways of Kentucky's statehouse, as a freshman representative from Hardin County.

"Wearing the two hats just takes a little bit of finesse," said Moore, a Republican and member of the 123rd Airlift Wing based in Louisville.

Moore's win last fall in the 26th District, which includes Fort Knox, was his first attempt at political office. His military service goes back nearly 25 years, with stints in the Air Force and Air Guard. He'll be serving in Afghanistan for a little more than a month, coordinating flight missions and also piloting trips into remote parts of the country to bring supplies and added manpower.

Moore, 40, said despite being deployed, he plans to have a hand in state business back home at the state capital.
