A major closure begins today for a section of Interstate 64.
The stretch going thru Louisville between Third Street and 22nd Street will undergo extensive repairs.
The closure is expected to last a month.
Officials suggest drivers take Interstate 264, The Watterson Expressway, to get around the closure.
Interstate 64 is scheduled to re-open August sixth.
No major problems on first day of I-64 closure
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - State transportation officials say there were no major problems during the morning commute as a section of Interstate 64 in downtown Louisville was shut down.
However, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokeswoman Andrea Clifford says Thursday morning's commute may not have given an accurate look at how traffic will be affected, as some people may have extended their Fourth of July holiday.
She says Monday's drive would be a better indicator.
Clifford says the Transportation Cabinet is not planning to make any changes based on what they saw today.
The mile-and-a-half stretch of highway from Third Street to 22nd Street will be closed for repairs until August Sixth.
