LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Families lined the edge of the airfield at the Air National Guard Base in Louisville, watching as the 123rd Airlift Wing waved goodbye.

Two-hundred-and-ten airmen from the unit boarded a C-130 military plane yesterday to be deployed overseas, The Courier-Journal reports.

Those deployed included volunteer pilots, navigators, loadmasters, maintenance personnel and various support troops. The crews will fly airlift missions throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and Northern Africa for the next month and a half.

Since September Eleventh, 2001, nearly nine-thousand members of the Kentucky Army and Air National Guard have deployed .
