Lexington Airport officials say decision needed on runway project

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Blue Grass Airport officials say they need
a decision before January on whether the state will help pay for a
runway relocation project.

Officials are considering relocating the airport's general
aviation runway, the one from which Comair Flight 5-1-9-1
mistakenly took off before crashing last August.

Michael Gobb, the airport's executive director, says officials
want to be ready for the Alltech F-E-I World Equestrian Games in
20-10.

Governor Fletcher called the General Assembly into a special
session this week to deal with this and other issues, including
incentives for energy companies.

House lawmakers adjourned shortly after the session began. They
say the session is too costly and unjustified.

Gobb says the airport board needs to decide in January whether
to go ahead with the project.

Jennifer Brislin, a spokeswoman for House Speaker Jody Richards,
however, says the decision can wait until January when the
legislature reconvenes.
