The former first lady of Morehead State University has died.
Mignon Doran was 96 years old. Her husband, Adron Doran, was Morehead's president from 1954 to 1977.
Several buildings on Morehead's campus bears her name.
Mrs. Doran was known for her work with young people, and also her love of music. She played the organ at UK and Morehead State games for years, and also the boy's state high school basketball tournament.
Arrangements will be handled by Northcut and Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The widow of former Morehead State University President Adron Doran has died at her home in Lexington
at the age of 96.
Mignon Doran died yesterday. Arrangements are pending at
Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
Mignon Doran was known for her work with youth and youth organizations. A Morehead State campus residence hall complex is named for her. She was a former member of the Governor's Commission on Children and Youth and started many programs for students at Morehead State.
Doran was an accomplished pianist and organist and played at
University of Kentucky and Morehead State basketball games. For
many years, she was the organist at the boys' state high school basketball tournament. She performed into her 90s, playing organ at
an annual holiday musicale she hosted at The Woodlands in Lexington, where she lived.
She was a Graves County native who studied at Murray State University and was married to Adron Doran for 70 years. He died in 2001.
