A man, injured after his car hit a tree, has died.
It happened just after eight o'clock a.m. Friday morning on the inner loop of New Circle Road, between Georgetown and Leestown Roads in Lexington.
Police say 21-year-old Allen Borntraeger lost control while passing another car.
"It appears he struck the center median, lost control, spun out, went over into the ditch and ultimately hit a tree with the side of the vehicle", says Sergeant Billy Reynolds with Lexington Police.
Borntraeger had to be cut out of the vehicle before being taken to UK Hospital where he died Friday night.
Police say he was not wearing a seat belt. Authorities used a vericom device multiple times after the crash to determine the speed the driver may have been going. They say it does not appear the driver was impaired, but toxicology results are pending.
New Circle road reopened shortly after 10 a.m.
