A terrifying situation for drivers in downtown Lexington Friday afternoon.
A driver police say was under the influence, slammed into vehicles, and drove the wrong way.
It all began on Richmond Road and Fairway where the driver struck the first of six vehicles involved in a series of four collisions. Three cars were struck at Main and Walton. The driver then proceeded further into downtown and headed the wrong way down Vine Street. He struck two cars on Vine. Police were finally able to arrest him at Vine and Limestone.
The driver has been identified as 43-year-old Dewey Owens. Police say Owens was driving on a suspended license and has had at least two other DUI arrests prior to today's arrest. Owens faces numerous charges including hit-and-run, wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, and DUI. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment but will be released to the Fayette County Detention Center.
No one in the vehicles struck by Owens was injured.
