Two men are safe after being stranded for hours in the Red River Gorge.
The men, Mike Plummer and Derek Dye, were trapped on a cliff in the Rock Bridge Area in Wolfe County.
Another hiker, Miki Padgett, avoided the fall, and tried to do everything he could to help his friends until rescue crews arrived.
Crews from several counties worked all morning to save the men and finally got them out just before noon.
They have been airlifted to UK hospital after falling over 50 feet, suffering injuries such as broken bones and severe blood loss.
27 NEWSFIRST has learned two of the hikers are from Bowling Green, the third is from Fort Thomas.
Both Plummer and Dye are listed in fair condition at UK.
WINCHESTER, Ky. (AP) - The Wolfe County and Powell County rescue squads have recovered two men who fell some 50 feet from a cliff in the Red River Gorge.
The injured men were flown by helicopter late this morning to receive hospital treatment for their injuries. Their names and conditions have not been released by authorities.
Television reports say the two and one other man were hiking in the Rockbridge area of the Gorge. The Powell County Rescue Squad was also on the scene.
