Video will be available shortly

The future is looking a little brighter for Richard Garland and his five children. Thanks to efforts from volunteers and donors from across the state, the Garland family is going to get a new home.

Garland, a single father who works at the local Kentucky Fried Chicken, and his children are currently living together in a one bedroom apartment, a situation that Kentucky Baptist Fellowship (KBF) and the McCreary County Community Housing Development Corporation (McCHDO) hope to change.

The two groups are partnering together to sponsor the second annual Extreme Build in McCreary County, Kentucky. Volunteers will come to McCreary County from across the state of Kentucky to help build the Garlands a new home in just five days!

Extreme Build is being made possible by generous donations from vendors, churches, and individuals, as well as the countless volunteer hours. There will be 130 volunteers from 20 different churches, who will work with the Garland family to build this house July 16-21.

On Sat. July 21st, there will be a picnic (12 p.m.) and dedication ceremony (1:30) at which time the Garlands will receive the keys to their new home. The Garland home is located at 20 Godby Trail in Whitley City, KY, off Winding Ridge Road.

Extreme Build is part of the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship’s Mountain Hope initiative, a 20 year commitment to alleviate poverty in the Appalachian region.
