SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - Brazilian authorities think a pilot was trying to take off after a failed landing, when his plane skipped over rush hour traffic and barreled into a gas station and exploded, killing at least 189 people.
A Brazilian newspaper reports that emergency workers have recovered 56 bodies, three of whom were killed on the ground, from the wreckage in Sao Paulo. They have also found the flight's black box.
The airline says there were 186 people on board the flight.
Two planes slipped off the same runway in rainy weather, just a day before the deadly crash. The runway at Sao Paulo's airport has been repeatedly criticized for being too short.
But officials say it's too early to tell what caused the crash.
