Print

Today the man accused of killing Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy was in court.

Tensions were running high in Powell County, as family members of both the accused and the victim were present for the preliminary hearing for James Barnett.

A short scuffle in the courtroom corridor between Barnett's son and the son of Randy Lacy had family members emotional before the hearing even began.

Inside the courtroom, things were considerably calmer, as Barnett's attorneys told the judge that they plan to file several motions, which will be heard on August 23.

Barnett is charged with one count of capitol murder

Prosecutors have already said they plan to seek the death penalty against Barnett.
