Man accused of pushing police officer during traffic stop

A man was arrested after police say he pushed a police officer during a traffic stop.

Somerset Police say an officer pulled over 31-year-old Mitchell Patrick Hutchison early Sunday morning, on Highway 1247, for speeding and for an equipment violation.

During the stop, police say the officer spotted several baggies of white powder he thought could be meth.

When the officer tried to grab the baggies, police say Hutchison pushed him, then threw the baggies across the road.

Police say Hutchison continued to resist arrest until he was placed in handcuffs.

Hutchison, of Monticello, is now charged with trafficking in controlled substances, tampering with physical evidence, third degree assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and several traffic offenses.
