Today the ribbon cutting ceremony took place for a project the tourism commission says will make downtown Frankfort much more attractive for tourists.
The project to bring a trolley to downtown Frankfort began about five years ago. The city originally tried to get a used trolley but couldn't find one. When stimulus money came in they realized they could buy a new one.
When ordering the new trolley, they knew they would be helping two groups of people, visitors exploring downtown Frankfort and the people building it. The trolley was built in a city where the unemployment rate is 22 percent.
The trolley's route begins at the history center and travels to the capital, hitting up several historic sites along the way. The entire trip takes about 40 minutes.
