Newport officer facing DUI charge

A police officer supposed to be upholding the law is charged with breaking it, while attending a training session in Central Kentucky.

Officer Gregory Simmons, a Newport police officer, was arrested in Madison County, while driving his cruiser.

Richmond police charged Simmons with driving under the influence, after they say he refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Simmons was in Richmond, attending a police training class at the Department of Criminal Justice Training Center.
