Student charged after bringing gun on school bus

A scary situation at Lexington's Bryan Station High School today.

School officials say they received a tip that a student was planning to bring a handgun to school today.

The student's family was also alerted and intercepted the 17-year-old Bryan Station sophomore student as soon as he got off the school bus, before he entered the school building.

The student did have a handgun with him on the school bus.

He did not enter the school building with the weapon.

The student has been removed from school and is facing several charges.

School officials say this incident provides an excellent opportunity to reinforce with students and the community the importance of reporting safety concerns and keeping communication lines open.
