Richmond Commissioners Vote For Alcohol Policy

The question of Sunday restaurant alcohol sales is back on the front burner in Richmond.

The City Commission has passed first reading of an ordinance that would allow larger restaurants to sell alcohol Sundays from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Despite Mayor Connie Lawson's support in February, commissioners voted down Sunday sales after dozens of citizens showed up at City Hall to argue against it, some threatening revenge at election time.

If a second reading of the Sunday Alcohol Policy passes, it would be law in Richmond.
