WASHINGTON (AP) - A federal court has struck down rules on working hours for truckers that were strongly criticized by safety
advocates.
The decision invalidates a rule issued by a federal safety agency in August of 2005 that allowed truckers to drive eleven hours in a row, rather than the previous limit of ten.
The judge has also thrown out a rule that critics say would have effectively increased weekly time limits on drivers' hours by at least 25 percent.
The court ruled that the Transportation Department's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration had failed to follow proper procedures in issuing the two measures.
The agency says it's still analyzing the decision and considering its next steps.
