Gas Line Break Shuts Down Busy Lexington Roads

Lexington emergency crews spent much of the day on Wednesday on the scene of a gas line break near UK Hospital.

A spokesperson from the Columbia Gas Company tells 27 NEWSFIRST that construction crews, digging on Limestone, ruptured the 6 inch line.
It happened around 11:00 Wednesday morning.

No evacuations were ordered, but haz-mat crews monitored the air throughout the day to make sure it was safe to breathe. Lexington police shut down parts of South Limestone while crews repaired the leak.

No customers lost gas service because of the break.

Crews had to go through the pavement to get to the pipe, which is why the repair took so long.

All streets in the area are now back open.
