NTSB Holds Hearing On Comair Crash
WASHINGTON (AP) - Safety investigators say failure by Comair pilots to notice clues they were headed down the wrong runway was the primary cause of last summer's deadly plane crash in Lexington that killed 49 people.
The National Transportation Safety Board deliberated all day on the cause of the August 27th crash of Comair Flight 5191. The commuter plane tried to depart from the wrong runway which was too short for a commercial jet.
Board members considered listing errors by the air traffic controller as a contributing cause but ultimately pinned most blame on the pilots and the Federal Aviation Administration's failure to enforce earlier recommendations on runway checks.
