Stacey Johnson
A young mother accused of leaving her baby outside a Kentucky courthouse says she's not guilty.
Stacey Johnson was in court Tuesday morning on a charge of child endangerment.
Police say the 22-year-old Breathitt County woman left her 9-month-old daughter strapped in her car seat outside the Powell County courthouse.
An inmate, working inside the courthouse, says Johnson came up to her around 1:30 Monday afternoon, and asked if she would watch the baby.
The inmate refused, saying she was too busy with work.
About 15 minutes later, the inmate says she noticed the baby in a car seat on the courthouse steps.
The baby is now in protective custody.
Johnson, who is from Breathitt County, was also charged with public intoxication.
27 NEWSFIRST spoke with Johnson's family, they say she loves children and the only reason this happened is because she was using drugs.
Johnson will be back in court next month.
