Man Arrested After Two Hit and Run Crashes

Lexington police called out the dogs and helicopter and shut down a busy Lexington road on Monday afternoon, searching for someone they is responsible for two hit and run crashes.

Police say 46-year-old Douglas Spencer was driving recklessly when he ran into an SUV at the corner of Forbes and Leestown Road, pushing it into a LexTran bus. There were no injuries on the bus, but some passengers were a little shaken up.

Witnesses say after that crash, the driver took off, but then slammed into a utility pole in front of the Coca Cola plant on Leestown Road. The impact of the crash snapped the pole in several places.

Police say Douglas took off on foot. They caught up with him in a wooded area behind the plant. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Douglas is charged with two counts of leaving the scene of the accident, reckless driving and driving without an operator's license. Police say more charges are possible.

Police had to close a stretch of Leestown Road for about an hour while they cleaned up the mess, but it is now back open
