Massive welcome home ceremony planned for troops

A massive welcome home ceremony is planned for Friday as Kentucky troops serving in Iraq finally return home.

Friday marks the seventh anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq.

167 troops will be welcomed home at Keeneland in Lexington at 1 p.m.

Task Force Dragon Warrior consists of the 299th Chemical Company, based in Maysville, as well as the 301st Chemical Company, based in Morehead.

They have been in Iraq since June 2009, where they provided protective service details to the U.S. State Department and the United Nations.

As the war enters it eighth year, about 96,000 American troops and more than 100,000 private contractors remain in the country.

President Obama hopes to pull all U.S. forces out of Iraq by the end of next year.
