State Names Recommended Route For I-66

Interstate 66, a multi million dollar project, is getting closer to becoming a reality.

“I feel it's progress and I feel it's needed,” says Kenny BeShears who was once fearful the highway would cut through his big corn fields.

Now he's been told his property is safe. But according to the route announced Wednesday, it's expected to take the property of another man who didn't want to be identified.

“Its' got more sentimental value than anything else. You can't make a living out of it anymore. You hate to see it go,” he says.

The state will begin buying property in two to three years if federal funds are available."

The 28 mile highway just in Pulaski and Laurel Counties will cost more than $200 million.

The interstate will pick up at the northern bypass in Somerset, then it follows Hwy 80 to the Rockcastle River, then it heads southeast to south of London where it will intersect with I-75.
