'Longest Yard Sale' Now 180 Miles Longer and Starts Today

The "Worlds Longest Yard Sale" begins Thursday August 2nd and runs through Sunday August 5th.

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A yard sale that northern Kentuckians have called "The World's Longest" is going to be even longer this year, which is its 20th anniversary.

"The World's Longest Yard Sale starts Thursday and has 180 additional miles for the four-day event.

The extra milage means Covington is no longer the first stop on the route, but organizers say they're not worried because thousands of buyers will fill the city's streets this weekend.

A spokeswoman says nearly all of 100 spots on the Sixth Street Promenade are sold out and many businesses on Main Street say they'll participate.

The event began in 1987 as the "U.S. 127 Corridor Sale" on a 350-mile route from Covington to Gadsden, Alabama.
