Memorial Held For Teen Crash Victim

It was supposed to be a birthday celebration, instead family and friends gathered Thursday night for a candle light vigil at the scene of the crash where 14 year old Larry Chowning III died.

Thursday would have been Chowning's 15th birthday. Mourners released 15 balloons in his memory.

David W. Childress, 18, of Lexington has been served with five counts of Wanton Endangerment in the 1st degree; for allowing the 14-year-old to drive the vehicle that crashed on Bryan Station road on Monday.

According to Lexington Police, the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control and struck three wooden fences.

Childress will make his first appearance in court on Aug. 23 at 1 p.m.
