As the UK basketball team prepares to take on Cornell in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament, more awards are coming in for freshman guard John Wall and Coach John Calipari.
On Monday, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association named Wall the National Freshman of the Year.
He was a unanimous choice in voting by USBWA members in all nine of the association's geographical districts.
Wall is also a finalist for the Oscar Robertson trophy, which is given to the USBWA's National Player of the Year.
Over the weekend, Wall was given the Adolph Rupp Trophy for National Player of the Year.
His coach, John Calipari, was given the Adolph Rupp Cup for National Coach of the Year.
This marks the first time in the 38 year history of the Rupp Awards that a Kentucky coach or player have won.
This is also the first time both recipients of the awards came from the same school.
The Rupp Awards are awarded by the Commonwealth Athletic Club of Kentucky, a non-profit organization established in 1972 by former players and former UK head coach Adolph Rupp.
UK will play Cornell, in an East Region semifinal game, Thursday night in Syracuse, New York.
The game is scheduled to tip off around 9:57 p.m. You can watch it live on WKYT.
