LOUISVILLE (AP) - A former Louisville and Fort Knox paramedic
was about 100 yards from the bridge that collapsed in Minnesota
this week, and helped rescue some children from a school bus stranded on the collapsed span.
Jay Reeves now works for the Red Cross in Minnesota, but he worked for six years as a paramedic in Jefferson County and then as a manager of combat medic training at Fort Knox. On Wednesday night he saw a cloud of rust-colored dust and part of the roadway come down as he drove nearby.
He told The Courier-Journal of Louisville that he pulled over and saw the
school bus on the tilting highway. Reeves says he and others carried the children to safety after they got out the back of the bus.
