89-year-old loses home from storms

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - An 89-year-old woman is dealing with fire and water damage all because of what rolled through Wednesday night.

Kevin Smith tells WKYT strong winds from the storm in Franklin County blew an electrical wire onto his mother's house. The wire started a fire on the roof, and moved into the attic. Smith's mother Catherine now has a hole in her attic. The smoke from the fire and flooding from the storm destroyed many of her treasured items.

"You know it could have been a whole lot worse. Main thing is, Mom is safe," said Smith.

Catherine Smith and her late husband moved into the home in the 1950s. She is unsure if the structure can be saved after Thursday's fire.
