It's a big day for the Big Blue. Kentucky is back in the Elite Eight.
It's been five years since the Cats made it this far in the NCAA Tournament.
The return is a welcome one for Coach John Calipari and his Cats.
UK, the top seed in the East Region, beat 12 seed Cornell, 62-45, in the Sweet 16 round Thursday night in Syracuse, New York.
"You know I was really pleased with the defense we played today," Coach Calipari said after the game. "The guys worked really hard to make it hard on them (Cornell)."
Cornell jumped out to a quick start in the game, holding a 10-2 lead over UK early in the first half.
But from there, the Cats turned up the defensive intensity, forcing 12 turnovers and closing the first half on a 30-6 run.
In the second half, Cornell kept UK from scoring, holding the Cats to four field goals for the first 12 minutes of the second half.
Cornell pulled to within 6 with 5:39 left in the game.
But from there, the Cats hit their free throws, and DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall stepped up to secure the win for the Big Blue.
The Cats will now advance to play West Virginia, the 2 seed in the East Region. The game is set for Saturday night at 7. You can watch it live on WKYT.
Immediately following the game, WKYT will have a special hour-long edition of 27 NEWSFIRST, complete with post game coverage, including Coach Cal's comments.
