Man robbed at gunpoint in parking lot

Lexington Police are looking for a group of men they say robbed another man in the parking lot of the EZ Stop Groceries in Lexington.

The call came in just before 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

"It was a salesman at my store," says EZ Stop Groceries owner Raad Mesmer. "As soon as he stepped out to get in his truck, they pulled a gun on him and took his backpack."

Stealing an undisclosed amount of cash and supplies, the thieves took off on foot. Police say the victim went after them, with the help of Mesmer and some others.

"I took my dog and tried to chase him and I went down the street but they outran me," Mesmer says.

Lexington Police arrived on scene several minutes after the robbery, but they say the call for help came in too late.

"The element of time passed because of the foot pursuit," says Lexington Police Sgt. Earl Rayford. "Again, it's not something we'd suggest."

Mesmer says he's seen trouble like this in and around his store before, and he wants it to end.

"Hopefully this is going to stop and I'm not going to have to do this anymore," says Mesmer.

The owner believes he's seen the ones responsible here before, and he is stressing anyone with information to call police.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lexington Police at (859) 258-3600.
