Police say man is behind string of hotel robberies

Richmond Police have arrested a man who may be behind as many as three hotel robberies.

The latest happened early Thursday morning at the Red Roof Inn, off exit 90A of I-75, in Richmond.

We are told the gunman talked with the Red Roof Inn clerk for 45 minutes before the hold-up, had a cup of coffee then pulled out a gun.

39-year-old Rodney La'Mont Porter was soon pulled over on East Main Street.

Police say he was driving a vehicle that matched the description of one the employee at the Red Roof Inn gave.

Police also say Porter matched the description of the suspect. He was then arrested.

"It was an officer on his toes, noticed a vehicle acting suspiciously, approached that vehicle and realized it was the vehicle in question that had just come from the robbery, and detained the suspect," Major Robert Mott of Richmond Police said.

Authorities are now working together to see if Porter is the same person who robbed a Super 8 Motel in Berea Wednesday morning. They say he may also be behind a robbery at a motel in Mount Vernon within the last few days.

Right now, Porter is just charged with the Richmond robbery.

Porter, who has had some prior arrests, lives in Wayne County.

The Mason County clerk tells 27 NEWSFIRST Porter was convicted in 1989 of a robbery that he went to prison for.

He also has a burglary charge in Jefferson County.

Richmond Police say they found some money on Porter when he was arrested.

They're still looking for the actual cash drawer that was stolen from the Richmond Red Roof Inn.

Police are also looking for the weapon used in that robbery.
