Body found under interstate overpass identified

A death investigation is underway after highway crews found a man's body under an interstate overpass.

The discovery was made late Thursday morning in Lexington along I-75, near mile marker 99, in the northbound lanes.

The scene is just north of the Clays Ferry Bridge.

Late Thursday afternoon, police identified the body as 70-year-old William Burberry of Lexington.

Burberry was reported missing to police a week ago.

Police say highway crews cutting brush in the area found the body.

Investigators say the body did not show any obvious causes of death.

Burberry was found with an overcoat on, and Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn thinks he had likely been there for at least a few days.

Ginn says there were no signs of trauma, or a struggle where the body was found.

Until all possibilities are ruled out, homicide detectives are helping with the investigation.

Police are also looking into a report of a car being towed from the area before the body was found.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday on the body.
