For the first time a young Breathitt County mother speaks out. 22 year old Stacey Johnson is accused of abandoning her baby at an eastern Kentucky courthouse, after asking an inmate to watch her.

Johnson, who is out of jail on a five thousand dollar bond, spoke after a hearing this morning in Powell District Court. She told 27 NEWSFIRST that she's a good mother, and appeared sorry for what she's alleged to have done.

Johnson met with her defense attorney, Public Defender Lisa Whisman, only briefly this morning, finding out when her jury trial is scheduled to happen.

She is accused of leaving her ten month old baby girl, Joshlyn, in a car seat at the Powell Courthouse with a jail trustee who was working there.
Johnson also faces a charge of being high on drugs in public.

The trial date for Johnson is scheduled for November 16th.
