Motorcyclist critically injured by suspected drunk driver

The driver of a car faces DUI and assault charges because police say he ran a red light, hitting a motorcyclist.

The crash happened on South Upper Street at West Maxwell, near downtown Lexington, late Tuesday night.

Police say the driver of a Jaguar, Paul Haney, 41, then hit a parked Cadillac Escalade.

The driver of the motorcycle, Samuel Mullins, went to UK Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Haney is charged with DUI and second-degree assault. Court records say Haney admitted to drinking four Makers Mark and coke and officers found marijuana and a smoking bowl inside his car.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Haney bonded out of jail after a judge reduced his bond to one thousand dollars cash.

Police say while they were investigating that accident, another suspected drunk driver went the wrong way on Maxwell without using headlights and drove into the police investigation scene.

That driver was arrested for DUI. The passenger was charged with alcohol intoxication.
