An off-duty sheriff's deputy and his grandson are recovering after being involved in a crash this morning. It happened on US 27 in Lincoln County.

Traffic is moving again along Hall's Gap Hill after quite an experience for Deputy Bill Schnitzler. He says he was taking his grandson to school this morning when a car pulled out in front of him.

Deputy Schnitzler says he was going up Hall's Gap Hill, south on 27 when a car pulled out in front of him from 3249. That's when he says the impact somehow caused his car to turn around and speed backwards up the hill and into a ditch.

Both the deputy and his grandson had some scrapes, but both are expected to be OK. One person in the other car involved was taken to the hospital for what state police are calling non-life threatening injuries. Police say it can be common for cars to turn around and go the other way when hit when high speeds are involved. No charges are expected to be filed.

Highway 27 was closed for about an hour this morning while state police investigated and cleared the scene.
