Man Sentenced For Accident That Scalded Niece

A Winchester man found out his punishment on Thursday, after admitting he endangered his niece when she fell into a pot of boiling water.

A judge sentenced Mark Campbell to two years probation. That means he won't serve jail time as long as he avoids any further criminal charges.

Investigators say Campbell was boiling potatoes on a hot plate on the floor of his home, when the toddler tripped and fell into the pot.

The 14-month-old suffered third degree burns.

During the sentencing, Campbell's attorney argued the whole thing was an accident. With the guilty plea, Campbell avoided a possible five year prison sentence if convicted by a jury.
